He has two Walkley Awards for stories about police corruption in Melbourne, and the bungled case against supposed terrorism suspect Mohammed Haneef. He knew Ben Zygier 'Prisoner X' when they were both in Jewish youth movements in Melbourne.
Leon Silver is a full-time writer and author of two novels, Dancing with the Hurricane (HarperCollins 2004) and Sweeties (Lacuna 2016). He was born in Shanghai, grew up in Israel, and came to Melbourne in the mid 1950s, where he still lives with his wife Lauretta. With a strong education in textile technology and design, Leon worked in the fashion industry for many years, but he has been writing all his life.

Silver’s protagonist Abel is not always likeable – his life is made up of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ decisions, like all of our lives, and Abel’s reflections remind us it’s never too late to provide a full account of ourselves.
