Contact 2016 is the 55th Australian National Speculative Fiction Convention and will be held from Friday 25 March to Monday 28 March 2016, at Hotel Jen, Brisbane. Contact 2016 is a community-run, national event, delivered by industry professionals and creatives who are passionate about speculative and cultural production.
The Orchid Nursery, by Louise Katz, has been shortlisted for the Norma K Hemming Award for excellence in the exploration of themes of race, gender, sexuality, class and disability in speculative fiction, which will be presented at the Ditmar Awards on Sunday 27 March. The book will be on sale throughout Contact 2016 from Pulp Fiction Books in the Traders' Room, where Louise will also be signing copies on Monday 28 March.
Join Louise and other panellists at 9am on Monday 28 March for a discussion of "Faith and Fiction": in the safety of alternative worlds, speculative fiction provides a space to interrogate our understanding of faith and human nature. How do our spiritual beliefs shape the stories we tell – and how do we engage with the ones we read?
