Elizabeth Manning Murphy
Elizabeth Manning Murphy DE JP BA Hons (Linguistics) FCES FSBT (UK) AFAIM is a linguist, a consultant in communication skills, a IPEd Distinguished Editor (DE) and an Honorary Life Memberof the Institute of Professional Editors, and an Honorary Life Member of Editors Canberra. Based in Canberra, Australia, she works internationally, mentoring and training in effective writing. Elizabeth has been a teacher, a university lecturer and a management consultant; she has also written many books, most recently a revised edition of Working words (a collection of ‘chats’ about editing and writing) and Effective writing: plain English at work, 2nd edition.
In 2020 Elizabeth was awarded IPEd’s highest honour, the Janet McKenzie Medal for outstanding service to the editing profession.
